Kubernetes Hosting FAQs

Frequently asked questions about our Kubernetes as a Service

Why choose Kubernetes?

Kubernetes schedules and automates container deployment across multiple compute nodes, whether on the public cloud, onsite VMs or physical on-premises machines. Its automatic scaling lets teams scale up or down to meet demand faster.

What is Kubernetes hosting?

Kubernetes automates operational tasks of container management and includes built-in commands for deploying applications, rolling out changes to your applications, scaling your applications up and down to fit changing needs, monitoring your applications, and more—making it easier to manage applications.

What is Kubernetes as a Service?

Kubernetes as a Service (KaaS) makes it possible to operate Kubernetes, the world’s most popular container orchestrator, as a managed service. KaaS services are commonly provided in the public cloud, but some KaaS platforms can also be deployed on-premises. Key features of Kubernetes as a Service include self-service deployment, Kubernetes upgrades, scalability, and multi-cloud portability.

What is a managed Kubernetes cluster?

Kubernetes cluster management is how an IT team manages a group of Kubernetes clusters. With modern cloud-native applications, Kubernetes environments are becoming highly distributed. They can be deployed across multiple datacenters on-premise, in the public cloud, and at the edge.

What are the main advantages of using a managed Kubernetes service?

By opting for a managed Kubernetes solution, you can eliminate much of the complexity associated with deploying and operating cloud native applications. For organizations that lack the skills or IT infrastructure, managed Kubernetes may be the only option.

How is the load balancer/ingress handled?

The load balancer/ingress acts as a reverse proxy, exposing HTTP and HTTPS routes from outside the cluster to services inside the K8S cluster.

What version of Kubernetes is installed?

By default, we install Kubernetes 1.32 for you. We can install other versions if you have a specific requirement.

Who manages version upgrades?

We can help to manage version upgrades for you.

How is the firewall managed on the master and worker nodes?

You can enable the Linux firewall on the master and worker nodes. We have a hardware firewall before the master/worker nodes to protect your servers. We can help to create access rules for you.

Is the CNI used?

We can support Flannel or Calico CNI plugins for you.

What OS is installed on the masters/workers?

We typically install Ubuntu 22.04 on the masters/workers. Currently, we do not support OS updates.

Can file servers be bought and on the same network as the cluster?

Yes, you can order a file server and host it on the same private network.

Are there limitations on the private network (physical network)?

The private network is a physical network. We do not have bandwidth limitations on the private or public network.

Is there skilled staff to troubleshoot k8s issues?

We have more than 5 years of experience in Kubernetes. We’ve developed and maintained a cloud platform based on K8S at https://www.cloudclusters.io/. Our skilled staff will help to troubleshoot k8s issues if you host your K8S platform with us.

What flavor of Kubernetes is installed (kubeadm/k3s/Rancher/openshift)?

It is kubeadm in our cloud platform.

If metal LB is used for ingress, can a second IP be assigned?

We will allocate a new dedicated IP for MetalLB. This will allow metal LB to move the IP from node to node as needed.

Can I add additional nodes in the future?

Yes. We will help to add the new node to the Kubernetes cloud.
